Michael Jackson Memorial to ‘flood internet’

with one comment

Many people are speculating that Michael Jackson’s memorial at the Staples Center will ‘flood’ the internet with the heaviest traffic ever seen in the history of the internet. The day Jackson died many sites, including Google and Jackson’s official site, became slow and sometimes unresponsive. Other sites had to be taken offline because of the overwhelming amount of traffic. It remains to be seen whether this will occur today as millions tune in both on TV and online to see Michael Jackson one last time.

The link for CNN Live, where the memorial will be aired live, is here: http://www.cnn.com/video/fb/facebook.html?stream=stream1

with 6 comments

Yesterday’s riots in the city of Urumqi, located in China’s western Xinjiang province, have left at least 156 people dead and over 800 people injured. Xinhua (Chinese State Media) claims there have been over 1434 arrests.

Xinhua further reports the government said: “An initial investigation showed the violence was masterminded by the separatist World Uighur Congress led by Rebiya Kadeer.” Kadeer is considered the Uigher leader and lives in exile in the United States.

Many in Xinjiang have long campaigned to gain independence from China, which is made up of prominently Han Chinese, while  Xinjiang is primarily Uigher Muslims.

An excerpt from a CNN article:

“The U.S. military is tracking a North Korean ship believed to be carrying illicit weapons or technology, a senior U.S. official said Thursday.

The ship, the Kang Nam, is a North Korean-flagged ship, according to two senior U.S. officials, and is currently in the Pacific.

While the United States does not know what specifically is on the ship, the Kang Nam is a “repeat offender,” known for having carried “proliferation materials,” one senior defense official said.”
